DuPont State Forest |
Location: Southwest of Hendersonville, North Carolina.
DuPont State Forest is a bit difficult to locate, but well worth the effort. Start in Hendersonville, North Carolina. From it's historic Main Street, take Kanuga Road, which will turn into Crab Creek Road. Several miles outside of town, on the left, you'll find DuPont Road. That will turn into Staton Road and take you into DuPont State Forest.
This fairly small area has numerous scenic waterfalls, including Bridal Veil Falls, Grassy Creek Falls, High Falls, Hooker Falls, Triple Falls, and others. Cedar Rock Mountain and Stone Mountain offer granite cliffs and domes, beatiful vistas, and other photographic opportunities. The small lakes and streams in the area are also very scenic.
If you're in a hurry, having only time for a short visit, park at the Hooker Falls parking area. From there it's a short walk to Hooker Falls, Triple Falls and High Falls, the three best falls in the forest. In addition, a covered bridge resides not far above High Falls.
