Lenses

You can find Tamron's website at http://www.tamron.com. For anyone who doesn't know, the T in T-Mount adaptors is for Tamron. This allows a variety of lenses to be mounted on nearly any 35mm SLR camera. They also make lenses in Nikon, Pentax, Canon, and Minolta. Those I have, or find interesting, follow.

14mm f/2.8 AF: This SP AF 14mm F/2.8 Aspherical (IF) Rectilinear is Tamron's widest lens as of this writing. It has a construction of 14 elements in 12 groups. Angle of view is 113.8 degrees. The lens weighs in at 23.3 ounces, and has a minimum focus distance of 7.8 inches.

17mm f/3.5 MF: This manual focus adaptall mount wideangle lens has a construction of 12 elenents in 10 groups. Weight is 9.4 ounces, and it takes 82mm filters.

90mm f/2.8 Macro MF: The manual version of the autofocus macro. Lens construction and filter diameter is the same, but it weighs slightly heavier at 15 ounces.

90mm f/2.8 Macro AF: A fine macro autofocus lens. Highly rated. Lens construction is 10 elenents in 9 groups. It has a weight of 14.2 ounces. Filter size is 55mm, and macro ratio is 1:1/ It has a 9-blade diaphragm and the aperture range is f/2.8 to f/32. It was replaced by the SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Maco in 2004.

90mm f/2.8 Di Macro AF: This newer Di (Digitally Integrated Design) lens was designed to work as well, or better, with digital as well as film SLRs. Lens construction is 10 elements in 9 groups. Weight is 14.3 ounces. Minimum focus is 11.4 inches, and gives 1:1 reproduction. Filter size remains at 55mm.

180mm f/3.5 Di LD Macro AF: For me, this is one of Tamron's most exciting designs. At 32.5 ounces, and 6.5 inches in length, it is the smallest of the long macro lenses available at this time. It gives 1:1 reproduction at a minimum focus of 18.5 inches, giving a nice working distance. Lens construction is 14 elements in 11 groups. Filter size is 72mm.

500mm f/8 Mirror MF: One of the best of the mirro (Catadioptric) lenses. It controls the background donut-shapes better than others. Lens construction is 7 elements in 4 groups. Macro reproduction is 1:3. Weight is 18.9 ounces. Lens mount is Adaptall II.

17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di LD IF Aspherical AF: Lens construction is 14 elements in 11 groups. It takes 77mm size filters. Weight is 14.4 ounces. Reviews have been very good on this wideangle zoom lens, and it gives better quality, and is faster, than the 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5.

19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 AF: Lens construction is 13 elements in 11 groups. It takes a 77mm filter. Weight is 9.64 ounces. I suspect this lens is made by Samyang. Statistics are virtually the same. Like Samyang/Phoenix or Vivitar, this is an inexpensive way to try out a wideangle zoom lens, and really isn't a bad lens. I have one and use it often.

28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di Aspherical AF: Lens construction is 16 elements in 14 groups. Filter size is 67mm. The lens has a weight of 18 ounces.

28-80mm f/3.5-5.6 AF: Weight of this lens is 8.4 ounces. A very light entry level lens, which I happen to own. It has a construction of 7 elements in 7 groups. Filter size is 58mm. Despite it being an inexpensive, medium quality lens, I enjoy this lens and use it far more than I would have thought.

28-105mm f/2.8 LD Aspherical AF: A fast zoom going from wideangle to short telephoto. Lens construction is 15 elements in 13 groups. Filter size is a large 82mm. Weight is 31.4 ounces.

28-300mm XR f/3.5-6.3 AF: A compact "all-in-one lens" with a length of 3.3 inches and a diameter of 2.9 inches. It has a weight of 14.8 ounces, takes a 62mm filter and has a close focus of 19.3 inches. Macro ratio at 300mm is 1:2.9. More expensive than the similar Sigma compact, but quality is about the same.

70-210mm f/3.5 MF: This replaced the 70-210mm f/4 Macro lens. Going to f/3.5 it lost its true macro ability. However, it still gives a macro ratio of 1:2.6. Lens construction is 15 elements in 11 groups. It has a weight of 30.3 ounces. Filter size is 62mm.

70-300mm f/4-5.6 Macro AF: Telephoto zoom lens with a macro ratio of 1:2. Lens construction is 13 elements in 9 groups. It takes a 62mm filter. It has a weight of 15.3 ounces. It can sometimes be found in a package deal with a matched 1.4x teleconverter. I've found that the macro works very well, giving very nice images up to half life size.

200-500mm f/5-6.3 Di LD AF: Lens construction is 13 elements in 10 groups. It takes a 86mm filter, and has a weight of 43.6 ounces. Although not a cheap lens, it is one of the less expensive ways to reach out to 500mm and still get good quality.
