In February 2003, Nikon introduced their first DX series lens, designed specifically for use with Nikon D1-series, D100, and other Nikon digital SLR cameras. The first in the series was the AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED.

My Recommendation: As of this writing (June 2005), most of these are very expensive lenses. Less expensive solutions are regular Nikkor or off-brand lenses. Sigma also has a 12-24mm lens, although it has a varible aperture of f/4.5-5.6. A lens I bought specificly for my Nikon D100 is Sigma's 24-135mm f/2.8-4.5 lens, which works very well. Other wideangle solutions could include Tokina's 17mm f/3.5 or one of the 14mm f/2.8 lenses from Sigma or Tamron. And, wideangle zoom alternatives could include Sigma's 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 or 17-35mm f/2.8-4, although I prefer Tokina's 12-24mm f/4. The Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5G "kit" lens reportedly is quite good and I would recommend obtaining it as part of the kit or separately if you already have a digital SLR. My recommendation for a three lens kit, covering nearly all needed focal lengths would be the Tokina 12-24mm f/4, Nikkor 18-70mm f/3.5-4.5, and the Nikkor 70-300mm ED lenses.
