My Digital Equipment

Although I do have digital cameras (P&S - Advanced - SLR), my first love will always be film SLRs. However, digital is part of my overall photographic equipment and this page is here to reflect that area of my photography.

At present, I have six digital cameras. The first digital I bought is the Konica Q-M200 pictured at right. It's a small, pocket-sized, 2-Megapixel camera. It operates on 3 AA batteries.

It uses CompactFlash cards to store images, and I use a Hukuba four card media case with an 8, two 64, and 128 MB cards when I travel with the Q-M200.

Rounding out the accessories I have for it are a soft carrying case and the PX-AC1 AC adapter.

My second digital was the Olympus C-5050, a 5-Megapixel camera. It has several program modes, but also allows for more user control than the Q-M200. Its built-in zoom lens is a 35mm equivalent 35-105mm design. It also has a hot shoe for an additional flash unit.

My first digital SLR was the Nikon D100, an interchangeable lens, 6.1-Megapixel SLR camera.

Being an interchangeable lens SLR camera, the D100 uses nearly all of the same accessories as my Nikon manual and autofocus film SLR cameras. The same is true for my second digital SLR, the Nikon D200. The Nikon D70s became my third digital SLR camera, primarily acquired to be the foundation of a lightweight/hiking kit.

My fifth digital camera is the Canon PowerShot A540 point and shoot camera - wanting something small that I could easily carry with me in a pocket when not out with other photo equipment.

Common Accessories:

The Konica, Olympus and Nikon digital cameras use CompactFlash media cards for storing images. The Olympus also takes xD-Picture, SmartMedia, and both the Olympus and Nikon will take IBM Microdrive cards. However, so far, with them, I have stayed with CompactFlash and have them in sizes of 8, 64, 128, 256, 512 megabite, and 1, 2, and 4GB capacities. I also have a 32 megabite xD-Picture Card that came with the Olympus. I have a pair of additional Hukuba four card media cases to protect the CompactFlash cards for use with each the Olympus C-5050 and Nikon D100 in addition to the one I use for the Konica. However, getting the Canon A540, I also needed to acquire the SD cards that it uses, and now have them in capacities from 256MB to 1GB. Also see Memory/Media Cards for updates.

To transfer images to my computer, I also have the SanDisk CF-SM card reader for CompactFlash and SmartMedia cards, and Delkin Devices card readers for Secure Digital (SD) cards. These work quickly and is simpler than uploading directly form the cameras.

The Canon, Konica, and Olympus digital cameras use AA cells, two in the Canon, three in the Konica, and four in the Olympus. Therefore, I purchased two Maha MH-C401FS chargers, along with Powerex mAh AA cells. I have a few older 1550mAh and eight Energizer 2100mAh AA cells, plus the four Olympus Camedia AA 1700mAh cells which came with that camera, but have also acquired Powerex mAh sells up to 2700mAh in capacity. The chargers will do a 100 minute quick charge or a five hour slow charge. They also have a 12-volt converter so I can charge batteries in my truck while traveling.
